Development of minimally invasive diagnostic strategies for malignant tumors using radiopharmaceuticals

Radiopharmaceuticals have excellent features as for example in their detectability through which very small amounts of them, such as nanograms and picograms, can be identified. We are now investigating some new diagnostic strategies for malignant tumors using radiopharmaceuticals: 1) evaluation of chemosensitivity of anticancer agents; 2) standard procedures for the detection of sentinel nodes; and 3) other in vivo imaging methods of target molecules. We are also engaged in the development of a portable gamma camera to enable intraoperative imaging that would facilitate a new minimally invasive operation named radio-guided surgery.
