Development of immunotherapy for the treatment of malignant brain tumors

Although treatment modalities for malignant gliomas have advanced remarkably, the prognosis remains poor. The development of new therapeutic strategies is required.Recently,T cells activated by antigens from brain tumors were shown to migrate to the central nervous system and selectively attack brain tumors. Thus,we developed therapeutic approaches to induce tumor-specific immune responses for the treatment of malignant gliomas using the herpes simplex virus and/or tumor antigens. In this COE program,we apply these therapeutic approaches in the clinical environment.
